Connected Car Japan: ATS presents a demo of GLM's sports EV OTA update system

ATS and GLM to start collaborative study on OTA update system for next generation EV

Tokyo
 17.01.2017
–
ATS Advanced Telematic Systems and EV maker GLM Co., Ltd. will be presenting GLM's sports EV Tommykaira ZZ integrated with an OTA (over the air) software update solution, based on ATS's open source software, from Wednesday 18th to Friday 20th January at Tokyo Big Sight for the "5th Connected Car Expo". ATS is leading the OTA development of Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), which has been a decisive factor for GLM to team up with ATS. AGL is a Linux Foundation Workgroup dedicated to creating open source software solutions for automotive applications, supported by leading carmakers like Toyota, Daimler, Honda and Nissan. GLM and ATS agreed to explore future collaboration with regard to connected driving, paving the way for the development of an OTA updating system for GLM's next-generation EV platform. The jointly developed proof of concept will be presented at Asia’s leading tradeshow for connected cars technologies, the "5th Connected Car Expo".

GLM's president and representative director, Hiroyasu Koma comments that, "Software development occupies a large space within the development of automobiles, and at this point, it's impossible to separate the two. Through continuous development of software and provision of updates, it will be possible for us to quickly implement a variety of the new technologies currently in development.”

“OTA updates are mandatory for connected cars, for carrying out software updates or critical bug fixes. Even more importantly, OTA updates help establish an ongoing customer relationship, monitor customer experience in real-time, and enable manufacturers to offer value-added services directly to the customer,” says Armin G. Schmidt, CEO of ATS Advanced Telematic Systems.

Software and firmware updates of IVI systems and ECUs over the air

The German automotive-focused software company ATS Advanced Telematic Systems is the developer of OTA Plus, a completely secure suite for over-the-air software and firmware updates of IVI systems and ECUs. All of the most important components are open source, with a fully transparent development process. For the deployment of software in test fleets, ATS has recently debuted ATS Garage, the first automotive-grade SaaS platform that is open source and specifically designed for the mobility market. The platform provides OEM labs, SMEs, research facilities and new mobility startups with free access to ready-to-use, cloud-based software services.

About GLM Co., Ltd.

GLM was established in April 2010 (with initial capital of 10 million JPY) as a venture to sell electric vehicles and provide its technology to third parties. GLM was founded by current CEO Hiroyasu Koma, who was then a second-year graduate student at Kyoto University. The company is based on the "Kyoto Electric Vehicle Project", an EV development project, launched in 2006 by the Venture Business Laboratory (VBL) of the University.

As a venture, GLM is highly respected, both domestically and abroad, by virtue of its success in mass production of extremely rare vehicles for the global market and for providing its technology as an  engineering solution. They develop EV vehicles from scratch. Mass production of the "Tommykaira ZZ" began in October 2015, and in September 2016 they caught the world's attention with the unveiling of their next generation EV super car "GLM G4" at the Paris Motor Show.
